I've always found that dieting is the harder part of trying to lose weight. If you exercise but your diet isn't particularly healthy you'll have done all the work with little to no results (This past summer is a perfectly good example for me).
I'd say that in addition to going vegetarian (which I think is a huge feat since I'm a meat lover) cut down on condiments as well. My mom did that and she's been losing weight ever since. Also cutting down on juice intake and drinking mostly water instead. She's also cut down on her meal sizes and will eat small meals multiple times a day instead of one large meal (which I can't seem to stop doing).
But good luck to you. You've got the motivation and the support so just keep at it.
