I couldn't agree more with your comments re: Sterek. I love reading the fic, but it's hard for me to understand how the pairing has gotten such incredible devotion given how non-existent their interaction is on the show. I was annoyed by the After Elton poll for so many reasons, primarily because it caused inter-fandom rivalry and that makes me sort of sad. But as a Merlin fan, I was pretty heartbroken that Sterek beat Merthur in the poll mostly because REALLY HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY COMPARE? I mean, Merlin was 100% a love story between Merlin and Arthur. Virtually every single episode was about their relationship. And that poll took place before the series finale, but that finale only cemented what we already knew, which is that MERTHUR IS CANON.
I think a large part of the dedication to Sterek has been fueled by the fact that the actors and writer, Jeff Davis, have supported and encouraged it. Which is wonderful, really. And Jeff Davis has made some comments that suggest he's at least considering, if not strongly likely, to make Sterek canon in the future. Since he's gay and he's already got an out gay character on the show, people are hopeful that he'll go through with it. But it doesn't exist on the show now. It does exist IN PLENTY in amazing, wonderful fic and I definitely consider myself a fan, I just think it's hard to compare what you get out of that show to what Merlin fans got.
Also, ugh, can't stand Scott/Allison. Dylan, however, is an amazing actor and makes the show for me. As does Tyler H's beautiful...everything.
