I remember awhile back I asked if anyone knew if $45 per dance lesson was a reasonable price, and most weren't sure. Well, I've found out it's a very reasonable price - at least out here.

There aren't many dance places out here, most of the dance places are for teaching kids to dance or doing recitals and stuff. But I did find a handful or so of places. The first place I called was the studio offering the lessons for $45. I called sort of late, but not too late, but the lady who answered kind of sounded out of it and almost answered every question I asked as if she wasn't sure herself what she was saying. I try not to judge people too harshly over the phone since I suck on it. Still her responses didn't fill me with a lot of confidence. I told her I would think about it and decided to call the other places before we made a decision.

[livejournal.com profile] blue_eyed_1987 asked : Tell me your favourite thing about this time of year for the 5th :)

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the question, it really made me think and discover something I hadn't realized.

When I was a kid, I didn't get to celebrate the holidays, so my favorite part about this time of year was Winter Break from school and not having to get up early to go to school.

Now, one of my favorite things is it getting colder. Living in Florida, the constant heat you sort of get used to but I really enjoy the respite when the temperature starts going down.

But I think my favorite thing is the traditions. I'm not someone who's great with a lot of change and I find comfort in the traditions and how, while there are changes, so much stays the same - listening to the same music, watching my favorite Holiday movies...It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. And now that I'm starting my own family, I'm enjoying sharing those traditions and creating new ones.

My last entry and some of the replies to it made me start to take a walk down memory lane and think about my past friendships and how I was when I was younger. Sometimes I think I always was as quiet as I am now, but really when I think about it I was actually the opposite. I used to be, from until maybe I was 6 or 7, quite the little chatterbox. So much so that people were constantly telling me to shut up. Okay, perhaps most of them weren't quite that harsh. But I did get told to "be quiet" a lot or the "OMG is she still talking" looks. I used to hang out with some of my cousins when we lived in New York when I was a kid and they were always annoyed by me. It's funny because when I go up for Thanksgiving to see my family, those same cousins marvel at how different I am. Now they want me to talk. I guess the difference now is that when you're younger you don't really have that filter that makes you analyze everything you say or worry about how you sound. But as I got older that filter went into overdrive.

Memory Lane of Friendships Past )

So do you think that's odd - my pattern of one or two friends? Or is that normal and having big groups of friends what's unusual. Maybe neither is unusual and some people have a huge posse and others have that one best friend.

This was a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who participated. I think everyone did better than they thought!

The quotes I choose were all from films I really loved, mostly in my top 20 films of all time. Not surprisingly The Princess Bride, one of the most quotable movies of all time, had the most correctly guessed quote. Pretty close behind were the quotes for Scream, Back to the Future, Part 1, and Dirty Dancing.

I actually thought the quote from The Breakfast Club would get more correct guesses since it feels so distinctive and unique to that movie. No one guessed the quote from Speed. I picked the quote from The Mighty even though I had a feeling a lot of people wouldn't get it. I'd recommend all the movies (especially my favorite Stand By Me) but I'd definitely recommend that one. It's a lovely, funny, sweet, and sad little movie with the added bonus of a lot of King Arthur and the roundtable talk for all of my Merlin friends.

The winner was:

[livejournal.com profile] heartsdesire456. She had an impressive 14 points! So if you want a vid or a drabble, you can choose. My main fandoms are Merlin and Torchwood. I could do a vid for Grey's Anatomy as well.

[livejournal.com profile] velociraptor52 came in second with an impressive 12 and half points!

Tied for third were [livejournal.com profile] ragdoll and [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper with a pretty cool eight points.

And in fifth was [livejournal.com profile] roelliej with a lucky seven points!

Below are ten quotes from films. Reply to this post to guess what the films are and I will think of a fun prize for the winner. Perhaps a drabble or a short vid, winner's preference. No internet searching for the answers, please - reveals posted tomorrow and comments are screened in the meantime. You get one point for every correctly guessed film title, one point for every correctly guessed character attribution, one point for being the first to guess either and one point for including an additional quote from any of the films off the top of your head. *Spoilers for the movies may be contained within the quotes*

Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale

Merlin season 4 finale, "The Sword in the Stone, Part 2." Just like the fifth series finale, I really liked this episode up until the end. Unlike a lot of people, I really didn't have a huge problem with Merlin assisting Arthur getting the sword out. Though it was indicitive of a huge problem, that continued right up until the end of not really letting Arthur having his own real victories. But what I really hated about the ending was after basically a season long wait, we finally get a Morgana/Arthur confrontation and it lasts for 2.5 seconds. Then we have Arthur deciding to forgive Gwen (and yes the audience knew she wasn't really guilty) for cheating because some chick he barely knew died. Yes, it was very, very sad but it was stupid, cheap reasoning to resolve the Gwen/Arthur plot. The ending was severely rushed. All that melodrama and Isolde dies, Arthur proposes, and Gwen's being coronated in the blink of an eye. And then they put the cherry on the cake of WTFery by having Aithusa randomly saving Morgana. And *SPOILER ALERT for season 5* if you were expecting that plot to be explained, it never really is the next season.

Day 27 - Best pilot episode

I think I'll go with Once Upon A Time. I was basically intrigued by the premise immediately, but the first episode grabbed me immediately and I found the whole story fascinating and really liked some of the characters and wanted to know what was going to happen next. I find it immensely re-watchable.

Day 28 - First TV show obsession

ABC Daytime soaps All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. My mom used to watch her shows all the time, and of course as a little kid I wasn't interested, but had to watch it sometimes with her. One day, I was about five or six, I just really started paying attention and being really intrigued when this lady, I think I'm remembering it right, got trapped in a shower. After that I started actually watching it with her and have never really stopped. I would always watch them off and on because of school, and we didn't have a VCR yet. I think the first time I truly became obsessed with it was when I was a pre-teen and there was this teen couple Brian and Hayley on AMC that I just fell for. I thought he was the cutest guy ever. I rushed home from school to try and catch their episodes.

Day 29 - Current TV show obsession
Day 30 - Saddest character death.

Day 18 - Favorite title sequence

I thought this would be so easy. I was going to pick Buffy the Vampire Slayer's opening and that was that. But then I started really thinking about the theme songs and sequences I really loved throughout the years, and then made the mistake of going on YouTube and got kind of stuck on an 80's nostalgia trip. Ultimately, I think my favorite sequences are The Cosby Show's credits from seasons 4-8 (excepting the godawful credits from season 5.) I liked all the credits post season 1 where they were dancing, but season 4 was the first one where I liked the opening music as well and really wanted to dance with them.

season 4
seasons 6 & 7
season 8

Also the Growing Pains theme. I think my favorite kinds of opening were ones that used clips from the show and where you could see the progression of the characters over the seasons. I also adored that they used pictures of the cast. And the endings for the openings were sometimes different depending on which character had the main storyline. The opening theme never changed, but after season 2 it was sung by different people. I preferred the season 2 singers.

Season 2

The biggest earworm theme for me is the one from Hey, Dude. I haven't seen the show in ages, and yet sometimes out of the blue I'll start singing the song.

"It's a little wild and a little straaaaaange..."
