Writing Meme Answers

[livejournal.com profile] rotrude asked for L: Is there a section of canon above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

For Merlin I don't think there's one particular section that inspires me more than any other. There are scenes and episodes that I like and can inspire me, like Merlin's goodbye speech to Arthur in "Le Morte d'Arthur", "The Last Dragonlord", simpleton!Arthur from "The Sword in the Stone" part 1.

For Teen Wolf since Scott/Isaac is my favorite pairing I definitely get inspired by the moment Scott tells Isaac he doesn't want him to get hurt in "Raving", in "Battlefield" several moments like when Deaton shows Isaac that he can absorb the dog's pain, Isaac tells Scott he trusts him, and when he shows up at the lacrosse. I'm definitely really inspired by Isaac moving in with Scott in "Unleashed."

[livejournal.com profile] the_redjay asked for H and W.

H: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

This was a hard one to figure out. So I'm going to cheat and choose four.

The first one is a Merlin/Arthur bit from my story "Don't Be Scared, It's Only Love." I like it because I think banter is one of my strength and this one has great banter and really establishes Merlin and Arthur's relationship.

A Simple Request )

The next three are from my Torchwood story "Stop All the Clocks" which was a Torchwood version of Four Weddings & A Funeral. It wasn't my first story, but it was the first one I'd written in over ten years and I would think that it would make me cringe more than my other stories, but I went over it and I actually quite enjoyed it. I'm proud that it, at least for me, still holds up, and that while I used a lot of dialogue from the movie, I made up a lot on my own.

This next bit is one of my favorites. When I was looking through stories for my favorite bits of dialogue I read Owen's line about asking invasive questions and not getting punched in the face and laughed. I think it's very Owen.

Invasive questions )

I just like the banter in this one, especially from Ianto. Also when I started I wasn't sure how to transfer the wedding dress montage in the movie to the story and make it work for suits, but I like the outfits I wrote for Jack.

Suit Shopping )

I like the Doctor's speech in this. I think it's very him and sweet without being cloying.

Teen Wolf is Back!...Yay?

I want to be excited about TW coming back but when I think about it I just either get apprehensive or start frothing at the mouth. When I found out Teen Wolf would be back on June 23rd after the finale, my first thought was "That soon?" And I still feel the same way. I just wish there was a longer wait between seasons, then maybe my aggravation with the prior season would have passed. It's kind of sad that when I saw the first promotional shot of the cast all together, I just got really sad. There was Scott, Stiles, Lydia, and Derek still, but it just felt like another representation of how this show really isn't the one I signed up for anymore.

Binge Watching

I'm starting to wonder if I should just binge watch shows from now on - at least dramas. The last few dramas that I've binge watched - Teen Wolf, Pretty Little Liars, and The Vampire Diaries- I really, really loved when I was binge watching them on Netflix, but when I started watching the shows on a week to week basis I've found myself beyond frustrated with them. I think with TWD and PLL the frustrations did start before I finished binge watching them. With TW it didn't really start until late into season 3A.

So much TV, So Little Time

Can't believe the first month of the year is already almost over. Swear the time has just flown by. I'm still working on my resolutions for the year. One is to watch more television especially more shows that I can introduce my fiance to. I'm really enjoying introducing him to stuff and getting to enjoy it together.

Teen Wolf - S3E10 - The Overlooked

A mixed bag of an episode for me. There were a lot of good moments of action or some good character moments, but there was also so much exposition at the end. I know that they needed to get the plot going, and I'm glad they tried to flesh out Jennifer, and some of that mistletoe info was interesting, it just dragged a bit.

I keep saying it, but it's such a major fail on the writer's parts IMO that they've failed to not only develop Cora, but develop her relationships with anyone, and now we have this mad dash to save Cora and we're supposed to care and I really don't all that much. And I don't buy some of these people's great concern either. Peter has spent most of his limited interactions with Cora being snarky, he killed one of his other nieces, and he is barely human with anyone. So him fussing over Cora didn't ring true to me. Isaac has shared no scenes with her, but is all in a rush to get to Cora and in the previews is screaming at Derek about not helping Cora. You would think she was his sister.

The person Cora's spent the most time with is Stiles and his reaction seems the most appropriate. And maybe I'm being naive, or it's the knowledge that the actress isn't long for TW, but I've never thought any of the Cora/Stiles scenes were supposed to be setting up a real romance. At most Cora could possibly be the one to deflower Stiles, but that's it.

Melissa McCall is such a fuckin' badass! Her character was kind of take her or leave her for me in the previous 2 seasons. I didn't hate her - I had no real strong feelings towards her. But she has just been phenomenal.

I liked the way Haley Webb played the transition between mousey Jennifer and the Darach.

Horny Isaac gosd love how that boy sticks his foot in his mouth so often. And awwwwwwwww that he didn't want to leave Scott. The thing that killed me about the line and DS's delivery was the way his voice cracked when he said Scott's name. He's so in love. :)

Loved the final scene with Scott and Stiles. We many not get to see it quite as much this year but whenever they're together it's clear they have the strongest, most functional relationship on the show.

I thought it was a very interesting episode. I enjoyed a little more than the past two episodes.

Teen Wolf- S3E5 "Frayed" - AKA Me Falling Down the Rabbit Hole

I really loved the content of this episode. A LOT. But I didn't like the style of the episode. I hated, okay maybe hate is too strong a word, disliked all of the flashbacks especially how jumbled and out of order they were. I don't want to feel like an idiot while watching Tenn Wolf but I had trouble keeping what was going on straight at first. I enjoyed the episode better when I watched some of it again with the 11 o'clock re-airing.

I don't think the flashback helped with the suspense level. I in no way believed Derek was actually dead. I was curious about why Scott believed he was dead, but the flashback structure didn't help up the suspense, at least not for me. And I'm starting to get Merlin flashbacks, and not necessarily in a good way. I understand that slow motion looks really cinematic and the actors look great, but an over reliance on it can become annoying. I hope TW can cool it with that.

I don't buy Derek going to Jennifer for help. I should probably just be patient and see if they come up with logical explanations for why Derek isn't healing and why he sought her out, but it still annoys me. Derek has humongous trust issues and I don't see him going to a woman, an innocent regular gal, he's met twice for help.

But now, on to the good - really loving Allison's arc this season. She's very multi-layered. She still has a regular teen girl side and can be vulnerable, like when she has trouble threading the needle, but she can also pull herself together and be a total bad-ass by saving Scott twice and by following her own mind when her dad doesn't want to get involved.

Also really love how they're handling Scott and Allison's potential reconciliation. I've always really liked the pairing. But I just really love how they're handling the two of them this season. It's obvious they still care about each other. But neither Scott and Allison are just about their pairing and spending every waking moment thinking and angsting over the other. They have other relationships and other issues they're dealing with and I really like this balanced approach.

Laughed a lot with the episode. Loved the Stiles's barrage of texts to get Danny to do his bidding. Also loved his stand-off with the coach, very much like Dr.Evil and his son Scott's constant "shh" battles. And Dylan O'Brien's evil grin when he comes up with his plan for Jarred was BRILLIANT!

Really starting to like Deaton. Loved how he stood his ground against the Alphas and only agreed to help when Scott was mentioned.

Ugh! That brain squishing, or whatever the hell that was, with Decaulion killing Ennis was so gross! Decaulion is kind of boring though, on the whole. Hope he becomes something other than stereotypical and camp-ish.

I've always heard people talk about how easy it is to multi-ship this show but I never totally got it because I tend to not multi-ship. But this episode was a great example of all of the great relationships on this show and how easy it is to multi-ship. For the most part I still don't multi-ship this show. I love Scott/Stiles, Derek/Scott, Lydia/Allison, Lydia/Stiles but for the most part I love those ships platonically (Scott/Stiles is the only one, depending on the scene, I kind of see differently sometimes.)

I really like Scott/Allison but I think I might have to seriously declare myself a Scott/Isaac shipper. I have just been slammed with feels for those guys in the last two episodes. At the end of the last episode with Isaac dripping wet in Scott's room was like so many porno movies. I wanted to see them make-out, but I still wasn't shipping them. But after last night, I can't help it. Once again Scott is the only one able to reach Isaac when he's freaking out. And I LOVED the looks on everyone else's faces when they saw how Scott was able to get through to Isaac. What I loved even more was Isaac going off because he found out Scott was hurt and the look on his face when he saw Scott and saw he was okay was amazing. I can't necessarily say it was love, but there was such relief there.

And then there was another bedroom scene. How Scott stuck to his plan and didn't jump Isaac's bones with the way he was looking at him while he was standing in that doorway, I can't answer. And going on Tumblr I discovered that TP is half Mexican, so Isaac's "I love Mexican" is even more LOL. God, Jeff Davis really is a troll. :)

Proof that I've gone down the rabbit hole and am totally falling into shipping Scott/Isaac is I've spent far too much time today watching vids, looking up Scott/Isaac stories, and looking for gifs on Tumblr. Daniel Sharman has got to stop (okay don't stop) having Isaac look at Scott as if they're in a cartoon and Scott is a sexy, naked glazed ham. I know it can partially be explained away that Isaac trusts Scott and basically considers Scott his alpha, but it feels much more sexual than that. I don't think this ship will ever truly happen on the show. But I could see a one-sided thing with Isaac, which if that led to fantasy make-out dream sequences, I'd totally be okay with.

Fandom Favorites Answers

Here are the answers to my fan favorites meme.

[livejournal.com profile] dk323 asked for Merlin:

Favorite character: Merlin, by a small margin over Arthur
Least favorite character: Kilgarrah
Character with the best hair: Morgana(circa series 1-3 because after that, yikes!)
Character with the best eyes: (tie) Merlin/Arthur (I find their eyes to be almost identical, so it's hard to pick)
Character with the best smile: Merlin
Character I'd most want to kiss: I think I'm developing a bit of a theme here, but I'd like to kiss both Merlin and Arthur
Character I'd most likely fuck: Same as above. Merlin/Arthur.
Character I'd make lunch for: Merlin (Some of Gaius's dishes looked kind of iffy to him. Merlin needs more people taking care of him.)
Character I'd go singing in the rain with: Arthur. (He probably couldn't carry a note, but it would be nice to see him cut loose.)
Character I'd go shopping with: Morgana (again circa series 1-3. Because after that she'd just be grumbling about death to Arthur and that would get old fast.)
Character I'd go dancing with: Gwaine. (He'd just be huge fun.)
Character I'd take over the world with: Merlin.
Character I most want to see more of: Lancelot. (Killing him off twice was nuts. His relationships with Merlin, Gwen, and Arthur needed to be explored more.)
Favorite pairing: Merlin/Arthur, hands down!

May I Join Your Pack? (Teen Wolf related)

I've finally taken the plunge and watched Teen Wolf. I'd taken a glimpse at the first episodes months ago, after that huge After Elton poll. While I liked what I saw, I wasn't in the mood to keep watching just then. (It didn't help that the first moment Derek showed up in the woods my boyfriend turned to me and was like "What is this Twilight?) But a few weeks ago I decided to check it again, partially because I was missing Merlin. I really don't want to get as obsessive about another show as I did with Merlin, but I need another goofy sci-fi/fantasy show to watch. For now I think I'm safe from becoming obsessed with it (then again that's what I said about Merlin.)

While not obsessed, I really, really do like it. I had started watching the first few episodes one by one. When I got to the fourth one, I became really intrigued. I decided to watch a couple more episodes, then do something else. I ended up watching the rest of the first season in one day. And the same thing happened with the second season. I started watching them one by one, but by the third, I was really into the story, and spent the next day watching the rest of the series, even though I really did have more important things to do.
