First of all, sorry for the lateness. Secondly, I can answer both questions. :)
My family was a lot behind the times when it came to getting a computer and having access to the internet. I think I was well into high school when we got AOL. At first I just used it for chatrooms and discussing movies. It wasn't until I fell in love with this couple, Zander and Emily, on my favorite soap General Hospital that I started going to different message boards to discuss the show and particularly that couple. I guess that was really the first time I discovered online communities and ventured into the fandom side of things. It was really fun (though I did become unhealthily obsessed for a time) and a made some really good friends.
Falling in love with Merlin,if we're talking about the whole show, was kind of a gradual thing. The first time I saw a vid of Merlin/Arthur I was instantly intrigued and when I saw the show for the first time I liked it, and definitely fell more in love with Merlin/Arthur, but I didn't love it at first. I actually don't think I fell fully in love with the show until the fourth series. The first few episodes of that season were so amazing (thanks to some great Merlin/Arthur scenes) that I definitely fell fully in love with the show and that's when I really started to become involved in the fandom side of things.

Date: 2013-12-16 12:02 am (UTC)It's really interesting to hear about your Merlin experience because it's somewhat different from mine. I have complicated feelings about the show itself--I didn't become fannish until I stumbled upon the fandom and it was around the time of end of the 4th season.
